Erin Payne was born on September 8, 1971, in San Diego, United States of America. She is around 7 years older than her husband Jake. After high school, she joined The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing in 2002. In 2011, she graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in Fine/Studio Arts from Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, California.
Erin is a professional painter. In 2012, Erin's efforts and expertise in the painting were recognized, as she was rewarded with the New American Painting Reader’s Choice award. She has attended several exhibitions displaying her painting works on grounds such as the Los Angeles Contemporary, Ray, Groundspace Project, and OBJCT Gallery, among many others.

Not many details about their dating life are known to the public since both Jake and his wife Erin are extremely private people. We do know they started living together in early 2005 though. Also, in an interview in 2012, he mentioned he has been with his wife for 7 years, so it is safe to assume their romance began in 2005. In July 2011, being the private people they are, Jake and Erin exchanged vows in a secret wedding ceremony.
Jake has mentioned that Erin started dating him before he became an actor in Hollywood, back when he had “$400 to his name and a disgusting mustache”. The couple’s personal love life is not very well known. However, Jake has said that there is no jealousy in their relationship; “my wife is the least jealous person in the world”, to be exact. He has also mentioned that shooting scenes with his co-stars like Megan Fox and Zooey Deschanel were never sexy, but just technical.

In an interview with the celebrity news website Marie Claire in 2012, Jake mentioned that he had a girlfriend in New York, and they dated when he was 20 to 24 years old. Since Jake was born in 1978, it is safe to assume he dated this lady from 1998 to 2002, long before he met Erin. Jake mentioned they lived in Queens and were really in love with each other, and he even had thought of getting married. However, his girlfriend initiated the breakup because she thought they were too young and they should date other people for a while.
According to Jake, the lady is dating a really great guy currently, and Jake is still good friends with her. During the shoot of his movie Safety Not Guaranteed, Jake used to call her up a lot to talk. Jake also relates to and sympathizes with the character he played in the movie since his character also chases an old love he can never be with.
