Mike weir was born and raised in Sarnia, Ontario. His family moved to Bright's Grove, Ontario when he was ten. He is the lastborn child of Richard Weir and Rowie Weir. His father Richard Weir worked at a chemical company in Sarnia while Rowie was a housewife. Mike has two brothers, Jim Weir and Craig Weir. Mike played Baseball and Hockey while growing up. During his final year of High School, in 1988, Mike won the Ontario Junior Boys Golf Championship at the Chedoke Golf Course in Hamilton, Ontario. He later joined Brigham Young University in Provo Utah on a scholarship. During his time there, he helped the Univesity win 3 consecutive Western Athletic Conference golf Championship. He was named the WAC player of the year and second-team All-American. He became professional in 1992 and joined the Canadian Professional Golf Tour.
