Nathan Clark Lashley, Nate Lashley was born on 12 December 1982 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, United States. His father, Rod played basketball for Kearney State, and his mother, Char played volleyball there. Rod also had a business in Phoenix. His older sister, Brooke, played volleyball in high school and for one year in junior college. At the age of 8 years old, Lashley started playing golf. In 2004, Lashley was a 21-year-old junior at the University of Arizona. He traveled to Oregon for an NCAA regional. His parents, Rod and Char Lashley flew from their home in Nebraska to watch him play. His girlfriend, Leslie Hofmeister, accompanied his parents. After the final round, all three offered hugs before boarding a small plane piloted by Rod. Next, Lashley tried to contact Rod over the phone but did not get any answer. FAA tracked the plane, figured out its flight path. Rod, Char, and Leslie were flying back to Nebraska but hit a rough patch of weather over Wyoming. For three days, he and his sister Brooke, along with other family members, waited, praying for the best but dreading the worst. On the third day, about a mile from 13,780-foot Gannett Peak, rescue workers found debris from a single-engine Cessna crash. They also found all three bodies. After the event, Lashley found that his emotions for golf are complicated and contradictory emotions. He knew his parents would have wanted him to continue pursuing his dream of playing golf for a living, but the sport also, understandably, has triggered within him guilt and anger.
